To our families

Training up a child in the way he should go.

Rearing children in today’s society is an awesome challenge. It has become increasingly difficult to pass on traditional values of God, country, and family as society sends messages and images that contradict those principles.

By choosing Wilmington Christian Academy, you have shown a commitment to “training up your child in the way he (or she) should go,” and a desire to raise a young future leader who cares about home, church, and education. Students can stay in the same school from kindergarten to graduation, remaining part of a close-knit community with values reinforced throughout their education.

We take seriously the trust you place in us, and commit to educating your child in a superior way: not just academically, but spiritually, emotionally, morally, and intellectually.

Christ at the center

Faith woven through every day.

We integrate curriculum and a biblical worldview across every subject, so students develop depth of knowledge and wisdom.

Christ-centered curriculum

A biblical worldview is integrated across all subject areas, with a structured classroom setting and lots of hands-on activities.

Weekly chapel

Every week, grade levels gather to hear God’s word and respond in prayer and song, then return to the classroom to learn and serve in God’s world.

Service projects

Every student takes part in community service projects, learning the joy of serving others and that, no matter their size, they are valuable members of the body of Christ.

Five-year-old kindergarten

One of the most important years in a child’s education.

Kindergarten is a full-day program at WCA, with aftercare available until 6:00 p.m. Children must turn 5 on or before August 31 to enter kindergarten.

Morning meeting
Each day begins with a welcome song, a group activity with numbers, a calendar review, and counting the days of the school year.
Phonics, reading & writing
Students learn to read with a systematic, step-by-step plan built on intensive phonics, in reading groups by ability level. Accelerated Reader adds incentives that build a love of reading.
Mathematics
Hands-on materials teach number recognition and value, counting, sorting, time, money, fractions, the calendar, pictographs, and addition and subtraction facts.
Bible
A daily Bible lesson from the Old and New Testaments, shared prayer requests, and weekly chapel, using the DeepRoots Bible curriculum.
Science & STEM
Hands-on science lessons about God’s plan for seeds, animals, the seashore, health, weather, and seasons, plus weekly STEM challenges.
Social studies
Community helpers and safety rules, the beginnings of American history, children of ten countries, and simple geography, with an emphasis on heritage and patriotism.
Electives
Art, music, PE, Spanish, library, and computer education every week.
Character training
One of the supreme goals of Christian education: every subject, teaching method, attitude, and action is a means of training character.
Snack, lunch & recess
Snacks come from home, and all kindergarten classrooms are peanut free. Students buy or bring lunch in our full-service cafeteria, and play on expansive playgrounds or an indoor jungle gym on rainy days.
Center time
In afternoon centers, students work in small groups and gain exposure to every subject area.

1st-5th grade

An accelerated curriculum, built on the basics.

Our elementary curriculum emphasizes reading and math, augmented with English, spelling, science, history, handwriting, and health, and enhanced through critical thinking activities and hands-on projects.

Phonics-based reading instruction runs from kindergarten through second grade, while hands-on learning projects and practice drills strengthen math. Students also receive weekly instruction in PE, art, music, library skills, Spanish, and computer applications, along with STEM challenges that build critical thinking and problem solving.

Technology

From the keyboard to coding.

Beginning in kindergarten, children learn computer application skills through a curriculum-integrated program, from word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics to web page design and coding.

  • A 29-station, internet-connected computer lab
  • Chromebook labs and Newline interactive whiteboards in every elementary classroom
  • HoverCams in every classroom

The focus stays on the learning, not the technology: students can complete creative projects and explore a world of information, with teachers helping them access, analyze, and organize it.
