Through the grades

From poetry to oratory.

Public performances and competitions give developing speakers valuable experience at every level.

  1. Elementary speech

Children take part in interpretive workshops, poetry competitions at the classroom, school, and regional levels, and public performances.

  2. Middle school speech

Hands-on activities and a variety of speeches, including pantomime, storytelling, reader’s theater, and formal speeches, with performance and competition opportunities.

  3. High school drama

A performance-based course in oral interpretation and acting, with concerts, plays, and contests that provide invaluable performance experience.

High school courses

Purpose, practice, and polish.

Drama
Emphasizes effective communication and introduces students to a variety of oral performance literature. Basic and advanced elements of oral interpretation and acting are taught through individual and group instruction.
Public speaking
A comprehensive study of public speaking that gives students purpose, practice, and polish in any speaking situation. Students learn to build logical outlines and speak persuasively, informatively, and ceremonially, with an emphasis on overcoming stage fright and speaking clearly and concisely.

Competitive speech

Thinking critically, arguing well.

The competitive speech class develops critical thinking and argumentation, preparing students for higher education and careers in ministry, law, business, or politics. Students research and write affirmative cases, negative blocks, and original persuasive speeches, and keep files on debate resolutions for tournament competition.
